RFID Technologies a Focus for ITF and EDTC

By Editor | September 22, 2009

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies have, in some respects, become everyday applications - with electronic ticketing systems and passport or security scanning being the most common forms. Now the potential for future developments to bring RFID into the offshore industry is the subject of a one day workshop in Aberdeen this week.

Co-hosted by ITF, the oil industry technology facilitator and EDTC Technology Gateway, a technology advisory organisation based at Edinburgh Napier University, the event titled ‘RFID – Benefits for the Offshore Industry’ will examine technologies available to the offshore sector and potential future developments.

Speakers at the event to be held on Thursday, September 24 at Norwood Hall Hotel in Aberdeen, include representatives from Scanology, AIDC UK, Arnlea Systems Ltd, STAC, Schlumberger and EnerMech.

ITF operations director David Liddle said:

“RFID technologies are used for automatic identification and data capture, covering a wide range of industries from security, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, healthcare security and now the offshore industry.

“The number and range of RFID technologies are growing each year as companies realise the benefits of using them to improve manufacturing efficiency and asset management and in turn save time and money.

“We are calling on delegates from all aspects of the offshore industry including technical, procurement and logistics staff, team leaders and decision makers to come along and engage with us to define the challenges and potential benefits of RFID to the industry.”
